The British Transport Police came to Design Against Crime to design a mobile phone lanyard which could be handed out at train stations to help travelers reduce the possibility of mobile phone theft or loss. The product and packaging had to fall into a tight budget of a production cost of less than £2 per unit. Informational packaging needed to accompany the Lasso, however any additional ‘packaging’ was not an option due to the concern from TfL over possible litter on the trains. I came up with the idea of the packaging being something useful as opposed to something that would just be thrown away – a cool OysterCard wallet. 7,500 Lassos and OysterCard wallets so far have been handed out.
